Ten Questions to Ask to Get Strong Testimonials

It is recommended that gathering testimonials and asking for reviews be a part of your interactions with customers and clients who have purchased from you. In the heat of the moment, however, it can seem daunting to know what to ask.

Following is a list of questions you could ask your clients to get strong testimonials, in addition to valuable feedback that could help you improve:

  1. Did you have any expectations going into our work together? If so, what were they?
  2. How did your experience working with our organization match up when compared to your expectations?
  3. What was your favorite thing about working with us?
  4. What did you learn from our work together? Anything that stood out?
  5. What did our organization do particularly well during our time together?
  6. Tell me about a time when working with us made a real difference.
  7. 7. What could we have done to make your experience better?
  8. How can we support you moving forward?
  9. Do you have anything else to add?
  10. Would you recommend us to your friends or family members? Why or why not?

This list is merely a starting point. Brainstorm your own questions, or customize this list to fit your particular products, services, or business model. If you have been curious to ask your clients something specific, take the opportunity to add it to the list.

Surveys are quite useful, so consider including some of these questions in your customer satisfaction surveys.

While surveys are helpful, remember that there is nothing like a conversation. Consider interviewing your favorite clients/customers. This process can be both enjoyable and enlightening, especially with a customer who loves what you did for them!

These questions can also be used when you are asking for reviews. People sometimes need a gentle prompt to remind them about specific experiences they have had with your organization. Placing one or two of these questions on your Google business page or in your LinkedIn recommendation request will help people feel more confident leaving a review, because they will have some ideas of what to say.

Remember that timing is everything! Ask your customers for a review right after they’ve expressed how grateful they are for your offerings or when they complement you in some way. Remember to thank them for the feedback and then ask for the review. Say something like, “Thank you for sharing that with me.

Would you be willing to write a Google Review about your experience?” This will go a long way to securing the testimonial.

Once you have these glowing reviews, consider ways you can share these with prospective customers to help grow your business. For ideas, you are invited to contact us.
